Procedures for the approval of a proposal for a Session-Workshop or Minisymposium

The organizer must provide:
1. A proposal for the organization of a Session-Workshop or Minisymposium.
2. A small description of his/her proposal (no more than 150 words).
3. A short CV.
4. Information about the procedures which will be followed for the promotion of that Session-Workshop or Minisymposium (the organizer is responsible for the promotion).
5. His/her full affiliations along with an e-mail adress for the submission of papers on the subject of the Session-Workshop or Minisymposium.

Attention Note: The maximum number of papers per author is four (4)

After the approval, the organizer will be the person responsible for the selection of the papers.

The papers must be sent to the ICNAAM Secretariat until 26 July 2019.

In the Proceedings of ICNAAM 2019 the Sessions-Workshops and Minisymposia will lie in a separate section of the Volume with a Preface created by the organizer. Occasionally, the organizer must inform us about the participation of his/her Session. If a Session consists of at least 6 registrations, the organizer will be granted free registration for ICNAAM 2019. If a Symposium consists of at least 10 registrations, the organizer will be granted free registration and have a part of the accomodation expenses covered.

3) Title: Physical-chemical gas-dynamics: Non-equilibrium processes modeling and simulation

Description of the non-equilibrium effects in reactive gas mixtures constitutes a grand challenge in physical-chemical gas-dynamics. Such processes are of great interest for the fields such as plasma physics, aerospace engineering, astrophysics, chemical engineering, etc. They require the development of sophisticated models and computational techniques to accurately simulate the diversity and complexity of non-equilibrium problems, and to effectively capture the wide range of relevant physical phenomena within these simulations.
This mini-symposium aims to provide a forum for specialists in reactive gas mixtures modeling and simulation, to identify and discuss, express and publish their expert views on current research, challenges in, and possible solutions for modeling of non-equilibrium processes, as well as developing the novel analytical and numerical methods for corresponding problems simulation, and address various issues in the areas of physical-chemical gas-dynamics.We hope that the mini-symposium eventually will contribute significantly to the knowledge in the field.

Transport and accumulation of heat, moisture, chemical substances, and momentum are phenomena which affect buildings and their inbuilt materials over their whole lifetime period. Their satisfactory description requires primarily a choice of proper physical and mathematical models because the transport mechanisms are coupled.  The computational implementation of mathematical models is another essential factor involving an application of appropriate methods of numerical solution. The computer simulation tools cannot be utilized properly without knowledge of a variety of transport and storage material parameters, which have to be determined experimentally in a wide range of field quantities, such as temperature, moisture content, and concentration of a particular chemical compound. The applied models are also supposed to be verified using critical experiments, in order to assess their overall quality. Therefore, in practical applications the computational modeling and experimental assessment of transport processes cannot be separated without a risk of significant departure from the physical reality.
The symposium brings together physicists, chemists, mathematicians, and engineers working in the field of transport processes in building materials and materials engineering. The main topics include but are not limited to:

The main purpose of the Section “Recent Advances in Numerical Methods and Simulations in Statics and Dynamics of Structures” is the presentation of new methods to analyse of safety and reliability of the structures under extreme loads as the earthquake and climatic loads (temperature, wind, snow, rain and others), terroristic attack (aircraft, missile, blast, fire and others) or technology accident (explosion, high temperature and others). The nonlinear material and geometric behavior of structures are necessary to consider during extreme loads. The risk of the structure collapse is determined by the model and resistance uncertainties. The deterministic and probabilistic analysis of the structure failure during the extreme loading can be used. The probabilistic assessment gives us the most complex analysis of the acceptable level of the risk. Recently, the theories of probability and statistics and reliability have provided the bases for modern structural design codes and specifications.
The main objectives of the Mini-symposium are developing:
  • The advanced methods and simulations of structure failure under extreme loads,
  • The nonlinear material and a geometric model of structures and efficient numerical methods,
  • The advances in the soil-base-structure or soil-fluid-structure interaction analysis under seismic loads, 
  • The experimental tests and the fluid simulation of the blast or extreme wind impact on structures with various shape,
  • The optimization of the new composite materials or structure shape to have the higher safety of the structure under the impact of extreme loads, 
  • The simulation probabilistic methods and the stochastic finite elements to probabilistic analysis of the structure resistance due to extreme loads,
  • The risk analysis of the structure failure using the fragility curves of the structural elements for various type of accident or extreme loads, 
  • The Reliability-Based Optimization procedures to consider the effects of uncertainty by means of reliability, the applications involving optimal structural design for stochastic linear and nonlinear statics and dynamics. 
  • The experience from the experiment tests, modeling and simulations of the structural failure under extreme loads using the deterministic or probabilistic assessment are welcome.

However, this classical mathematical approach for solving boundary value problems only works on a relatively small class of problems. In more realistic models, solutions of boundary value problems cannot be found explicitly in terms of known functions, and the alternative is to determine an approximate solution for given data through numerical computations.
Due to this reason, different numerical methods have been developed in the literature for the solution of boundary value problems that includes Finite difference method, Finite element method, Finite volume method, Boundary element method, and Spline methods etc. This mini-symposium aims, to present the new development of computational methods for solving boundary value problems.

Call for papers: Continuous-time state-space models are used to describe the dynamics of several industrial production systems, as well as the dynamics of financial systems. A typical example of continuous-time production systems is electric power generation. Other examples can be found in the metal industry, in mining, in the fuels industry, in the food industry, the cement industry etc. In such systems, there exists a continuous inflow of raw material out of which a continuous outflow of a product is generated.
The related state-space descriptions are often complicated and consist of coupled nonlinear differential equations, while input-output time-delays can be also included in them. The solution to the related control problem has a two-fold objective:
(i) assure that the production will stay at the desirable levels (ii) minimize the consumption of energy or the cost of the raw materials needed to sustain such production. One often arrives at continuous-time nonlinear optimal control problems, which are either computationally complex to solve or which are of questionable stability and convergence properties. The proposed special session will attempt to present recent advances in this area and to elaborate on nonlinear control approaches which can ascertain that industrial production will be uninterrupted, the operational capacity of industrial units will be raised while the production cost will be minimized.
Continuous-time state-space models are also met in economics and finance. These models can be used to describe business-cycles and the interaction of macroeconomic indexes between distributed financial entities such as companies, banks or interconnected economies. These models can demonstrate the variation of the gross domestic product, the accumulation of capital stocks or changes of interest rates in linked economies.
By applying nonlinear control to such systems growth and financial stability can be achieved. Again the nonlinear control of the related continuous-time spate-space models can have multiple objectives: (i) the implementation of a specific macroeconomic policy, (ii) the implementation of a monetary or taxation policy, (iii) the abatement of recession and the sustaining of growth, (iv) the prevention of crises and the mitigation of the spreading of financial distress. Nonlinear control allows accomplishing the aforementioned aims under limitations in resources. The proposed special session will attempt to present recent advances in this area and to elaborate on nonlinear control approaches which can ascertain that assets and capitals will be optimally managed so as targeted financial indexes to be reached.

The symposium, organized by Assoc. The theoretical, numerical and computational analysis of dynamical systems and their  applications to the analysis of problems coming from civil, mechanical, electrical, etc. engineering and related subject fields, their formal verification and practical validation of relevant approaches constitute the unifying idea of this symposium, whose significance should be seen just in the confrontation of different approaches and intensification of multidisciplinary cooperation of experts (mathematicians, physicists, engineers, ...).
Leaving nice model cases and seeing the real-world problems, we come to serious difficulties a) in the formal analysis of existence, uniqueness, stability, etc. of solutions, b) in the convergence of sequences of approximate solutions, as well as c) in the design of sufficiently robust and inexpensive algorithms for direct, sensitivity and inverse problems.
The unification approaches addressed to the continuous and discrete analysis, namely to the study of integral, differential, difference, etc. equations from engineering practice, both deterministic and stochastic ones, including their formulation on time scales, is needed: the theoretical problems include e.g. i) stability and observability of dynamical systems on time scales, their qualitative and quantitative analysis, ii) filtration of inner states of such systems and iii) identification of systems of orthogonal functions. The scope of applications is not limited, but both theoretical and computational predictions of mechanical, thermal, etc. behavior of advanced materials and structures and control of related technologies, up to the development of modeling and simulation software tools, are welcome.

Interdisciplinarity aims at obtaining the new by crossing boundaries between academic disciplines, and thinking across them.
Computer aided medical planning and simulation is a rapidly evolving research field that is going to alter dramatically the way practitioners perform their job. Mathematical models and computer simulations have a huge impact on modern medicine and engineering, in the treatment of diseases, in modeling engineering processes and prototypes and financial planning processes. For instance, a challenge lies in the modeling of the behavior of hard and soft tissue bringing together researchers from mathematics, medicine, economics, computer science and engineering. Another type of challenge could consist in data processing as subject to very general topics, including signal processing, field image or volume, with many applications in industry and medicine. Last but not least, modern medicine and state of the art engineering implies best "treatment" with cost effective optimization.
It should be emphasized that it is not expected the mathematician to become a physician or an engineer but to acquire interdisciplinary concepts and gain the ability to use and value modern methods across domains.
Besides talks of mathematicians, doctors and engineers, the master students, PhD students, post-doc students or junior researchers will have the opportunity to present their works.

61) Title: Finite Difference Schemes of New Generation

In his classical work [1] associated with a solution technique for Riemann problems, Godunov introduced the concept of a monotone finite-difference scheme and proved that, among linear difference schemes, there are no monotone ones with an order of accuracy higher than the first. The subsequent development of the theory of shock-capturing difference schemes for hyperbolic systems of conservation laws was aimed to a large degree at the overcoming of the Godunov order barrier. As a result, various classes of difference schemes were developed in which a high order of accuracy for smooth solutions and monotonicity were achieved by applying nonlinear flux correction (NFC), which leads to the nonlinearity of these schemes even in the approximation of the linear transport equation. The basic classes of NFC schemes include MUSCL, TVD, NED, WENO, and CABARET schemes. The basic advantage of these schemes is that they localize shock waves with high accuracy in the absence of considerable spurious oscillations on their fronts.
It has been shown that NFC schemes have at most the first order of both local convergence in shock influence regions [2, 3] and integral convergence on intervals with one of the boundaries lying in a shock influence region [4, 5]. The cause of this is that the flux correction procedure characteristic of NFC schemes leads to less smooth numerical fluxes, which in turn lead to a lower order of approximation of the Hugoniot conditions on shock fronts [6]. At the same time, some classical high-order accurate non-monotone schemes that have analytical functions of numerical fluxes and, hence, approximate the Hugoniot conditions with high accuracy preserve the high order of convergence in the negative norm in integration over domains containing strong discontinuities [4]. As a result, these nonmonotone schemes, in contrast to NFC ones, preserve the high order of convergence in regions of shock influence despite the noticeable spurious oscillations on their fronts.
In [7, 8], a method was proposed for constructing shock-capturing difference schemes that combine the advantages of both NFC and classical nonmonotone schemes, namely, they localize shock fronts with high accuracy and simultaneously preserve the high order of convergence in all domains where the considered weak solutions are smooth. A combined difference scheme involves a nonmonotone basis scheme of a high order of convergence applied in regions of shock influence. The basic scheme is used to construct a different solution in the entire computational domain.
In high-gradient regions, where this solution has spurious oscillations, it is corrected by solving internal initial–boundary value problems using one of the NFC-scheme. Test calculations have shown the substantial advantages of combined schemes compared to various NFC-schemes (in particular, with WENO-schemes) when calculating discontinuous solutions with shock.
Within the framework of this symposium, it is planned to discuss problems of further development of the theory of combined difference schemes and the possibility of using these schemes for the numerical simulation of various gas and hydrodynamic problems.

The seismic analysis deals with the response of building structures to earthquakes. For new constructions, the efforts of scientific researchers are aimed at improving the seismic design principles to ensure satisfactory behavior under earthquakes with global collapse mechanisms. On the other hand, most losses of lives in case of earthquakes occurred due to the collapse of non-engineered existing buildings, only designed for gravity loads without meeting seismic requirements. In these cases, after seismic evaluation of the performance of buildings, seismic upgrading and retrofitting interventions are required to prevent non-structural damages during minor earthquakes, which may occur frequently in their lifetime, and to prevent sudden collapses or serious damages during major earthquakes, which may occur rarely.
According to these premises, in the proposed special session the most advanced analysis techniques to investigate the seismic performance of new and existing ordinary and historical constructions made of reinforced concrete, masonry, steel, and timber are presented and discussed. Moreover, the advancements of the state-of-the research on the use of anti-seismic devices and techniques (base isolation systems, composite materials, passive and active control systems, etc.) for local, upgrading and retrofitting interventions on existing structures are examined in detail. As a conclusion, the session will provide to researchers and designers new perspectives in the field of Seismic Engineering.

The development of knowledge in contemporary science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) involves epistemologies and cognition frames associated with modelling processes that balance different elements from theory, experimentation and scientific computation. Increasingly, many of those processes are based on advanced mathematical physics models and methods of scientific computation. As a consequence, the strategy for STEM education should envision the development of educational curricula, methodologies and teaching-learning environments that foster meaningful learning paths going through balanced interactive explorations of all the different phases of the modelling cycle, namely, qualitative contextual description, definition, exploration, interpretation and validation of mathematical models, communication of results and generalizations. Furthermore, it is fundamental to achieve an early balanced integration of computational modelling, and to bring up a strong integrated background in physics, mathematics and scientific computation, always considering specific area dependent contexts. However, despite the increasing amount of scientific evidence gathered over the years, most current practices in STEM education courses are still not able to reflect such balanced STEM epistemological and cognitive characteristics. Moreover, these are courses that often have many students with fragmented knowledge states, deteriorating expectations and low exam success rates.
This Symposium is open to all interested in discussing contributions to improve on this situation. Focusing on secondary and introductory university levels we welcome theoretical, empirical or innovation development contributions distributed by all STEM areas and applications.
Topics include but are not limited to:

Semi-analytic evaluation of many-electron Coulomb integrals with Gaussian expansion (linear combination of p(x)exp(-c.x^2)) of distance operators (x^(-u)) is given to make the evaluation simpler. The quasi-linear buildup of Coulomb integrals in the eigenvalue (energy) with the coupling strength parameter (a) is analyzed via the Hamiltonian operator, HkinHne+a.Hee, along with extending the Hohenberg-Kohn theorems with “a”. The latter allows an algebraic transfer from the simpler solution of case a=0, where the single Slater determinant is the accurate form, to the physical case a=1, where the solution is more complex than a single Slater determinant. A detailed solution algorithm is given for this way with utilizing the generalized Moller-Plesset-, square of Hamiltonian- (H^2) and configuration interactions devices. Applying standard eigensolver for Hamiltonian matrices (one or two times) buys off the needs of “self-consistent field” convergence present in today practice. Moreover, Hund’s rule, virial- and Koopmans theorems are also considered in relation to “a”.

In recent years, statistical models and techniques for discrete data analysis have advanced significantly in a wide range of research areas.
Even when the phenomenon of interest is theoretically continuous, but its observed values are registered as discrete (just think of the lifetime of many devices in industry, when one observes the number of cycles completed before failure), it is more appropriate to adopt a discrete model derived as an analog of the hypothesized continuous distribution, preserving one or more of its features.
This session is open to all contributions on statistical analysis of discrete data, with a particular focus on discrete counterparts of univariate and multivariate continuous distributions and their reliability and dependence properties.
