TOURS

Palace of Knossos and guided city tour Heraklion, Thursday 22.09.2022

This excursion is dedicated to the island's most important archaeological and historical site, Knossos. The most controversial and well-preserved Minoan archaeological site, the Palace of Knossos, uncovered and reconstructed by Sir Evans, is a must-see for any traveler to Crete. The residence of the legendary King Minos is a multi-storey and technically sophisticated palace that has an estimated 1300-1400 rooms, countless corridors and porticos. Knossos was the religious and administrative center of Crete. The size and variety of the surviving layout, columns, walls, paintings and sculptures of this vast palace complex give an idea of Minoan life and take us back thousands of years. The tour continues to Heraklion. In Heraklion you will experience a guided tour through the biggerst town of Crete. Our tip: Visit the Venetian fortress of Koules at the port, Freedom Square, the Morosini fountain with the water-spewing lion or Daedalus Street with many shops.

Our tour starts with visit at an olive olive factory where we will learn how the “liquid gold” of Crete is produced. We will take a tour and afterwards we will try the Cretan olive oil. The tour continues with a scenic trip to the gulf of Mirabello in North-East Crete. You will go back to the myth of Spinaloga. The island is one of the better-known features in Crete.  It was a former leaper colony (until 1957) and Venetian fortress and has centuries of history.  After a scenic boat tour, your guide will escort you around the island and you’ll learn about times past. The boat sails afterwards back to Elounda/ Plaka, where the bus will wait for us to continue to the Agios Nikolaos.
