Procedures for the approval of a proposal for a Session-Workshop or Minisymposium


The organizer must provide:
1. A proposal for the organization of a Session-Workshop or Minisymposium.
2. A small description of his/her proposal (no more than 150 words).
3. A short CV.
4. Information about the procedures which will be followed for the promotion of that Session-Workshop or Minisymposium (the organizer is responsible for the promotion).
5. His/her full affiliations along with an e-mail adress for the submission of papers on the subject of the Session-Workshop or Minisymposium.

Attention Note: The maximum number of papers per author is four (4)

After the approval, the organizer will be the person responsible for the selection of the papers.

The papers must be sent to the ICNAAM Secretariat until 26 July 2023.

In the Proceedings of ICNAAM 2023 the Sessions-Workshops and Minisymposia will lie in a separate section of the Volume with a Preface created by the organizer. Occasionally, the organizer must inform us about the participation of his/her Session. If a Session consists of at least 6 fully paid physical registrations, the organizer will be granted free registration for ICNAAM 2023. If a Symposium consists of at least 15 fully paid registrations, the organizer will be granted free registration and have a part of the accomodation expenses covered.

Transport and accumulation of heat, moisture, chemical substances, and momentum are phenomena which affect buildings and their inbuilt materials over their whole lifetime period.

Their satisfactory description requires primarily a choice of proper physical and mathematical models because the transport mechanisms are coupled.  The computational implementation of mathematical models is another essential factor involving an application of appropriate methods of numerical solution. The computer simulation tools cannot be utilized properly without knowledge of a variety of transport and storage material parameters, microstructural and structural parameters, which have to be determined experimentally in a wide range of field quantities, such as temperature, moisture content, and concentration of a particular chemical compound. The applied models are also supposed to be verified using critical experiments, in order to assess their overall quality. Therefore, in practical applications the computational modeling and experimental assessment of transport processes cannot be separated without a risk of significant departure from the physical reality.

The minisymposium is devoted to the study of computational methods that require the implementation of approximation algorithms for treatment of big data sets and use of artificial intelligence (AI) and/or machine learning (ML) techniques. It aims to bring together scientists from academia and industry, who work on or make use of new methodologies of numerical analysis to communicate, disseminate and discuss their latest scientific achievements, by also highlighting their implications, developments, and interdisciplinary applications.

15) Title: Symposium on Recent Advances in Numerical Methods and Simulations in Statics and Dynamics of Structures

The main purpose of the Symposium “Recent Advances in Numerical Methods and Simulations in Statics and Dynamics of Structures” is the presentation of new methods to analyze of safety and reliability of the structures under extreme loads as the earthquake and climatic loads (temperature, wind, snow, and others), terroristic attack (aircraft, missile, blast, fire and others) or technology accident (explosion, fire, high temperature, overpressure, impact load and others). The nonlinear material and geometric behavior of structures is necessary consider during extreme loads. The risk the structure collapse is determined by the model and resistance uncertainties. The deterministic and probabilistic analysis of the structure failure during the extreme loading can be used. The probabilistic assessment gives us the most complex analysis of the acceptable level of risk. Recently, the theories of probability and statistics and reliability have provided the bases for modern structural design codes and specifications.

The main objectives of the Mini-symposium are developing:

- The advanced methods and simulations of structure failure under extreme loads,

- The nonlinear material and geometric model of structures and the effective numerical methods,

- The advances in the soil-base-structure or soil-fluid-structure interaction analysis under seismic loads,

- The experimental tests and the fluid simulation of the blast or extreme wind impact on structures with various shape,

- The optimization of the new composite materials or structure shape to have the higher safety of the structure under impact of extreme loads,

- The simulation probabilistic methods and the stochastic finite elements to probabilistic analysis of the structure resistance due to extreme loads,

- The risk analysis of the structure failure using the fragility curves of the structural elements for various type of accident or extreme loads,

- The reliability-based optimization procedures to consider of the effects of uncertainty by means of reliability, the applications involving optimal structural design for stochastic linear and nonlinear statics and dynamics.

- The experience from the experimental tests, modelling and simulations of the structure failure under extreme loads using the deterministic or probabilistic assessment were welcome.

Mathematical modeling is essential in efforts that focus on predicting, assessing, and controlling diseases outbreaks. Since the pioneer paper of Daniel Bernoulli “Essai d'une nouvelle analyze de la mortalité causée par la petite vérole” dated of 1766, where he showed that inoculation against the virus would increase the life expectancy, huge developments and progress have been made. The most serious issue with a pandemic outbreak such as SARS-CoV-2 is its rapidly growing transmission rate across the world. Mathematical modeling and simulation allow for rapid assessment. They have the potential to trace and predict the epidemic trajectory under different scenarios but also to assess the impact of social distancing, use of face masks, etc..

Many physical phenomena in science and engineering are modelled by nonlinear differential equations. There is no doubt that Lie symmetry methods are one of the most effective set of techniques to find exact solutions of such nonlinear differential equations. They have been used by several scientists and applied to various nonlinear models in physics, biology, engineering, economics, etc.

The Lie symmetry methods identify and extend the concept of symmetry, produce an effective method of symmetry applications in difficult situations, give accurate statement of problems and in many cases show a possible way for finding their solutions.
We organize this session of applications of Lie symmetry methods to search for exact solutions of nonlinear models and to show recent progress of theoretic tools in Lie symmetry methods related to the study of nonlinear differential equations.

Nonlinear control is almost ubiquitous is all technological developments and actually it is indispensable in robotics and mechatronics, in autonomous vehicles and intelligent transportation systems, in electric power generation, traction and propulsion systems, in the smart electricity grid and power electronics, in industrial processes, in pharmaceutical industries and in biomedical applications, in agriculture, constructions and mining, in satellites, aerospace systems and telecommunications, in financial systems and industrial production scheduling and in numerous other tasks and activities aiming at improving the quality of living and human safety.

Main approaches to nonlinear control for complex dynamical systems are: (i) control and estimation with global linearization techniques (e.g. based on differential flatness theory or Lie algebra), (ii) control and estimation with approximate linearization techniques (e.g. based on local linear models which are obtained through Taylor series expansion), (iii) control and estimation based on Lyapunov stability theory (e.g. energy-based control, adaptive control and adaptive identification techniques), (iv) control based on other optimization concepts (e.g. sliding-mode control and nonlinear model predictive control) (v) nonlinear control addressed to systems under specific state-space forms (e.g. backstepping control and control implemented in cascading loops). The above noted techniques fall within the scope of this special session. Moreover, results on nonlinear control methods which are applied directly on the initial model of the system and are free of diffeomorphisms, changes of state variables and state-space-description transformations will be given particular attention and will be prioritized for inclusion in this special session.

Prospective authors are requested to submit their articles, until the 21st of June 2023 to the organizers of this symposium.

 

25) Title: Recent advances in shape-sensing and structural health monitoring approaches

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is a well-recognized general approach for the assessment of structural integrity, with several industrial applications. SHM is typically based on input data coming from a net of sensors and on the processing the data in order to provide damage characterization. A recently proposed important technology for SHM is the so-called shape-sensing, i.e., the evaluation of the deformed shape of a structure starting from some discrete strain measurements. Once the displacement field is known, the strain

and stress fields can be reconstructed too, constituting the basis for the application of failure criteria and damage assessment. A further output of shape-sensing can also be the reconstruction of internal and external loads experienced by the structure.

This Minisymposium is focused on bringing together the latest advances in shape-sensing and SHM approachessuitable for an effective control and health monitoring of modern aerospace, automotive, marine and civilian structures.

Porous materials are a frequent subject of investigation in many areas of applied science and engineering, such as soil mechanics, rock mechanics, petroleum engineering, construction engineering, hydrogeology, geophysics or food science. The porous media analysis include, among others, natural (soils, rocks), artificial (concrete, ceramics) or biological materials (food products, wood). Physical and chemical phenomena occurring in porous materials can be described conveniently by mathematical modeling and subsequent numerical simulation of heat, mass and momentum transport and storage processes. Soft computing approaches are powerful methods to deal with modelling, control, and calibration of industrial robots. Forward kinematics of industrial robots in particular suffers from uncertainties in the parameter values and its model. It is therefore highly appreciated to tune the parameter values of industrial robots using soft-computing approaches as well as using intelligent structures to compensate for forward kinematics errors. The tuned forward kinematics of industrial robot can then be used for high precision control of industrial robot for object handling and manipulation.

Even though fuzzy univariate and partially fuzzy multivariate time series has been under comprehensive investigation, fuzzy nonlinear and multivariate time series analysis relatively studied less. However, recently, a growing interest has been directed to the methodological and implementation aspects of this research area. In this proposal, the nature of several data sets in many disciplines suggests that nonlinear models are more appropriate for forecasting and accurately describing the real structure of underlying phenomena. One of the approaches to deal with nonlinearity is fuzzy-based methodologies.

This Symposium is dedicated to the geomatics approaches used for surveying, monitoring and mathematical modelling the territory, both with classical techniques and innovative technologies, related also to natural risk assessment. Geomatics approaches involve the use of the latest generation of laser scanners, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) or UGVs (Unmanned Ground Vehicles) and satellite technologies, for an enhanced monitoring of mass transport in the Earth system. Results achieved with the help of photo-realistic simulation environments are welcomed as well. The theoretical, numerical and computational analysis of dynamical systems and their  applications to the analysis of problems coming from civil, mechanical, electrical, etc. engineering and related subject fields, their formal verification and practical validation of relevant approaches constitute the unifying idea of this symposium, whose significance should be seen just in the confrontation of different approaches and intensification of multidisciplinary cooperation of experts (mathematicians, physicists, engineers, ...). Leaving nice model cases and seeing the real-world problems, we come to serious difficulties a) in the formal analysis of existence, uniqueness, stability, etc. of solutions, b) in the convergence of sequences of approximate solutions, as well as c) in the design of sufficiently robust and inexpensive algorithms for direct, sensitivity and inverse problems. The unification approaches addressed to the continuous and discrete analysis, namely to the study of integral, differential, difference, etc. equations from engineering practice, both deterministic and stochastic ones, including their formulation on time scales, is needed: the theoretical problems include e.g. i) stability and observability of dynamical systems on time scales, their qualitative and quantitative analysis, ii) filtration of inner states of such systems and iii) identification of systems of orthogonal functions. The scope of applications is not limited, but both theoretical and computational predictions of mechanical, thermal, etc. behaviour of advanced materials and structures and control of related technologies, up to the development of modelling and simulation software tools, are welcome.

Interdisciplinarity aims at obtaining the new by crossing boundaries between academic disciplines, and thinking across them.

Computer aided medical planning and simulation is a rapidly evolving research field that is going to alter dramatically the way practitioners perform their job. Mathematical models and computer simulations have a huge impact on modern medicine and engineering, in the treatment of diseases, in modeling engineering processes and prototypes and financial planning processes. For instance, a challenge lies in the modeling of the behavior of hard and soft tissue bringing together researchers from mathematics, medicine, economics, computer science and engineering. Numerical simulation technology has been widely active in various disciplines and engineering fields to solve multi-physical problems, such as material behavior, thermal hydraulics, neutronics, fuel performance and other complex equipment fields. High- performance computing has been applied to accelerate advanced modeling and simulation in many different fields of engineering, such as virtual reactors, hydrology, meteorology, to solve multi-physical problems. The new generation of supercomputers and high-performance computing technology, especially the unprecedented computing capabilities of “exascale” supercomputers (millions of cores with 1018 floating point operations per second) bring researchers great opportunities on physical models, numerical methods, algorithms, and software engineering technologies, which promote the development of numerical simulation towards high-fidelity.

However, the high-fidelity numerical simulations, as some combination of physical models and exascale heterogeneous supercomputers, have proposed significant challenges because of increased processing units, accelerators, complex hierarchical memory systems, interconnection networks, storage and uncertainties in programming models. The interdisciplinary collaboration is becoming more and more important in high- fidelity numerical simulation. Realistic modeling and simulation need to combine physical modeling methods, mathematical models, parallel algorithms and tools for exploiting supercomputers effectively. Besides, multi-physics coupling environment, verification and validation (V&V) tools, and data analytics also play critical roles. Furthermore, massive and complex simulation data are produced by physical models and numerical methods, which usually span many orders of magnitude in time and space scales, with strong domain characteristics, such as diversity, relevance, the numerical and imprecise nature, and valuable domain scientific knowledge. The characteristics of the simulation data make it difficult to analyze, visualize, interpret and understand. It is necessary to develop new methods and highly scalable software with simulation big data which can be used to facilitate model evaluation and optimization, benchmarking, uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis, forecasting, etc. for specific domain issues, including irradiation effects in materials, CFD calculations, neutronics and fuel performance , etc.

This workshop focuses on novel mathematical modeling, parallel algorithms, high performance computing tools, various simulation data mining methods, algorithms and programs in reactor engineering, material science, CFD calculations, neutronics, fuel performance and other complex equipment fields. The fusion of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and data mining for high-fidelity numerical simulation is particularly encouraged. We invite original research contributions, surveys, and case studies related to the workshop topics.

This MS aims at favoring a fruitful debate on the experimental characterization and mathematical modelling of materials and structures at different scales, with a special emphasis of their applications in engineering mechanics. Contributions to this MS are welcome, investigating multiphysics phenomena from the standpoint of experimental behavior and mathematical modelling, thus developing connections between the academy and the engineering practice. In particular, as an indicative list absolutely not exhaustive, the following topics are included in the MS: formulation of higher order gradient structural theories, homogenization of heterogeneous structures, nonlinear response of masonry structures, characterization and modelling of coatings, joining and interfaces, coupling between chemical processes and thermomechanical response of materials and structures, mathematical and stochastic methods for calibration/validation of predictive tools, structural monitoring and diagnostics, heat transmission problems.

The attendees will be range from students to highly professionals, all interested in the future of renewable energy. Our symposium covers various subjects: from new numerical methods and fundamental research until engineering applications to energy production and conversion. This annual meeting is a part of the International Conference of Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics (ICNAAM2023) and thus it is organized together with many other symposia on numerical analysis: this also offers a wider audience since ICNAAM is perhaps one of the biggest events in the field of the numerical analysis involving hundreds of scientists from the whole world.

Publications:

All the papers presented at the conference will be published in a special volume of the AIP (American Institute of Physics) Conference Proceedings. The length of each paper cannot exceed 4 pages.

60) Title: On Polynomial Diophantine Equations I.: Generalization of Pythagorean Triples to (K+L)-Tuples

The (K+L)-tuple (more informatively, (K<->L)-tuple) Pythagoreans are discussed, as well as the twin-Pythagoreans (a1^2+b1^2= a2^2+b2^2= c^2), k-Pythagoreans (A^2+B^2= kC^2) and Pell equation (A^2-pB^2= 1).

The general formulae are more complicated for Pythagorean multi-tuples than the known formula for classical triplets by a^2+b^2= c^2. The “Educates guesses” are discussed in this subject.

“Comparing the coefficients method”, “Partial derivatives method”, “recursive formulae” and the powerful “Back substitution algorithm” are discussed for this subject. In relations to 10th of Hilbert's 23 problems, the generating formulae of polynomial Diophantine equations are obtained from solving the associated set of polynomial equations.

 

62) Title: On Polynomial Diophantine Equations III.: Alternative Generating Equations

Many alternative formulae have been derived to Pythagorean-, Ramanujan-, Vieta-, Pell equations, particularly (M^2+4Mm+4m^2)^3+ (2M^2+8Mm+8m^2)^3= (3M^3+18M^2m+36Mm^2+24m^3)^2 to Euler form, and Euler Quartic Conjecture, etc..

The 2nd order polynomial Diophantine systems of two equations are also discussed. Comments are given on trajectories (higher genus curves) of physical motions traveling through irrational points of 3D space (embedded in real points), as an opportunity in the explanation of dark matter.

Many people live in earthquake-prone areas, which are usually represented by very dense urban habitats. In these territories, structures, and infrastructures, often designed either without seismic regulations or with outdated earthquake standard codes, are often in poor conditions due to several reasons, such as age, degradation of materials, lack of maintenance, damages due to past natural and man-made hazards and so on. As a result, occupants and built heritage are dramatically at risk in case of earthquakes. The scarceness of funds and the reticence of public administrations to implement oriented and effective retrofit strategies represents a serious problem to be overpassed to avoid building collapse and, thus, potentially save human lives. The future of modern earthquake engineering will be dominated by new kinds of emerging technologies and new materials developed to reduce the seismic vulnerability of existing constructions.

The recent research results published in literature offer invaluable pointers to practicing designers and administrators, as well as other scientists, whose work involves saving the lives and property of the many millions of people who live and work in hazardous buildings.

Starting from these premises, in the current Special Session topics to be covered, but not limited to, are:

Distributed energy harvesting from ambient vibration is facing increasing research activity and application demands. The recent developments favor nonlinear systems using multi-field devices with piezoelectric, electrostatic, and electromagnetic transducers reported much better efficiency showing a frequency broadband effect. On the other hand, energy obtained in this way could be sufficient to power simple wireless and portable devices. From an engineering point of view, the design of the predominant piezoelectric structure for obtaining energy from mechanical vibrations is based on a flexible beam/plate as a mechanical resonator and a piezoelectric patch. To include nonlinear effects, the beam is interacting with permanent magnets or a system of nonlinear springs.

A special attention is played on the system subjected to aerodynamic loads. Due to the fact that during ambient vibration harvesting, a wide spectrum of harmonics are excited, various coupled transducers adjusted and tested to different frequencies and/or air flow speeds.

This session is going to be organized in the frame of “21st International Conference of Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics 2023” to be held at Heraklion, Crete, Greece on 11-17 September 2023.
